The Grateful Dead House

This photo marks the start of our Haight and Ashbury journey. We started at a location known as “The Grateful Dead House”. The reason for the name of this house should be fairly obvious; this is where The Grateful Dead lived while they were in the Haight. Many locals consider this site as a key part of the history of the Haight and the city of San Francisco (as well as the Hippy Movement). It was not as glorious or as glamorous as we expected, but it was still an interesting insight into how the Haight is evolving. Things are-a-changing, the Hippy culture seems to be loosing its hold on the location, while retail business seek to take advantage of ever-increasing tourist market.
